Description
The Tripiti Gorge is a wild and less-visited gorge in southern Crete, offering a more adventurous experience compared to the region’s popular trails. It begins inland near the White Mountains and descends toward the Libyan Sea, ending at a remote beach. The route is considered moderate to difficult, as it includes rough, rocky terrain, narrow passages, and some sections that require careful footing or light scrambling. Unlike well-organized gorges such as Samaria Gorge, Tripiti is largely untouched and not always clearly marked, which adds to its sense of isolation. Along the way, hikers pass through dramatic cliffs, dry riverbeds, and occasional greenery, with very few other visitors around. Because of its remoteness, it’s best suited for experienced hikers who are well-prepared with water, proper footwear, and navigation awareness.
