Description

The Museum of Visual Arts of Heraklion (M.E.T.I.) was founded in May 2000 as a non-profit company by Kostis and Irene Schizakis.
In 2006, the effort to record the works of the collection and publish a catalogue began, while the first exhibition was held in early 2007 under the title “Contemporary Art – A Look at the Visual Landscape of Crete” . Since then, a large number of exhibitions have followed, either in the hall at 3 Nymphon Street or in other venues in Greece and abroad.

The collection consists entirely of three sections.

The first and the largest, includes notable works by artists from the period from 1850 to the present day. The second, contains the light material, as it is called, and are works that are offered mainly as souvenirs by the artists. The third section, obeying the statutes of METI, does nothing more than record the amateur creation of our country, so that it can be preserved for future researchers.

The METI collection today consists, of remarkable works, some of which are of exceptional importance and significance for contemporary Greek art.
