Description
Tessaron Martyron Square in Rethymno is one of the city’s central points, located just before Megali Porta and the entrance to the Old Town.
It was named Tessaron Martyron Square (“of Four Martyrs”) after the church of the same name to the west of the square, between Dimakopoulou-Gerakaris Street and Kountourioti Avenue. The Girls’ Gymnasium once stood on this square.
There is also a statue of Kostis Giampoudakis, the man who set fire to the Arkadi Monastery, in Tessaron Martyron Square.
