Description
It’s a small, relatively unknown gorge in the Sfakia region of Crete, located inland above villages like Asfendou and not far from better-known routes such as Aradena Gorge. Because it’s less developed and not heavily marked, it doesn’t show up much in tourist guides or photos.
The gorge itself is quite rugged, with rocky terrain, dry riverbeds, and sections that can feel wild and unmaintained. It’s generally considered a moderate to difficult hike, mainly due to navigation challenges rather than technical climbing. Unlike popular gorges with clear trails, Asfendou feels more remote and is best suited for experienced hikers who are comfortable exploring less-defined paths.
