Description
The monastery is built in a naturally fortified position, probably to protect the monks from the robber raids of pirates before the Venetian occupation. During the Venetian occupation, it seems to have been the strongest monastery in the area, even from the Monastery of Agia Pelagia , which was located on the northern side of the beach of Agia Pelagia , which in fact became a fief of Savvatiana.
From the entrance of the monastery, a beautiful path begins, drowned in vegetation, leading to the monastery. The central church of Savvatiana is relatively new and is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and the Forty Martyrs . The monastery has been renovated in recent years, without losing its elegance. The monastery grounds also include the cemetery, the ossuary, an old mill, the dining room for foreigners, the old manor house, the monks' cells and the old aqueduct.
