Description
The Rimondi Fountain (Κρήνη Ριμόντι) is a 17th-century Venetian fountain and one of the most iconic historical landmarks in the Old Town of Rethymno. Built around 1626 by the Venetian Rector Alvise Rimondi, it once supplied much of the city’s drinking water.
The fountain features three lion-head spouts that continue to flow fresh water and stand atop stratified columns with Corinthian capitals beneath a Latin-inscribed entablature.
Located in a lively square surrounded by cafes and shops, Rimondi Fountain remains a must-see heritage site representing Venetian influence in Crete and a charming spot for photography and relaxation while exploring Rethymno’s historic centre.
