Description

Prassano Gorge (also known as Prassanos or Prasses Gorge) is a stunning natural landscape located approximately 10 kilometers southeast of Rethymno, Crete. Known for its dramatic, towering rock walls and narrow passages, this roughly 3-hour hike offers a wilder and less crowded alternative to the island's more famous trails. The gorge serves as a critical biotope, housing some of the last remaining Bearded Vultures in the Balkans, alongside golden eagles and rare flora. While the trek is considered moderately difficult due to rocky terrain and occasional light climbing over boulders, hikers are rewarded with a peaceful environment characterized by lush greenery and seasonal water flows.
