Description

The Parlamas Agricultural Museum & Theanos Metaxas-Kanakakis Weaving Collection, housed in a 19th century stone-built factory and a house (donated by the Parlamas family), was founded by the Society for Cretan Historical Studies in 1988.

The Museum's Collections are thematically structured (press, raco-kazano, oven, agricultural tools, Cretan house, blacksmith shop, cooperage, carpentry, olive mill, woven fabrics, weaving tools and lacemaking), with a focus on the Cretan countryside and objects dating from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. In 2011, after an extensive renovation and expansion (P.E.P. Crete), the Museum acquired weaving wings with textiles from the Theano Metaxa-Kanakaki Collections.

Rich visual material and digital media offer the visitor additional information and documentation of the exhibits. The museum is accessible to people with disabilities, has a small shop, a temporary exhibition hall and rest areas.
