Description

Panagia Trimartiri is the metropolitan church of Chania, as well as the patron saint of the city. Dating back to 1860, while it is built on the foundations of an earlier temple. It is a three-aisled temple, with the central aisle dedicated to the entrance of Holy Mary in the temple of Solomonta, the north to Saint Nikolas and the southern to the Three Holy Hierarchs. About 1645, the temple was turned into a soap factory by Mustafa Pasha, to whom the area belonged, while the legend says that after the intervention of the Holy Mary, he changed his mind and allowed the Christian residents to perform the erection of the church, which was completed in 1860, giving it, its today's form.
