Description
Orne Pond (or Lake Orne) is a small, natural seasonal lake located approximately 500 meters northeast of the village of Orne in the Agios Vasilios province, about 50 km from Rethymno city. Situated at an altitude of 300 meters on the southeastern slopes of Mount Kedros, the pond is formed during the winter months by spring waters flowing from the mountain's snowy peaks. It typically covers an area of about 1 hectare (10 acres) and is surrounded by dense olive groves. Visitors are encouraged to visit during the winter and early spring when the pond is full, as the area often becomes completely dry during the summer months. The site is noted for its scenic views and its proximity to other natural attractions like the Kissano Gorge and the Selinara Waterfalls.
