Description
Mount Vrysimas (also known as Vrisinas) is a significant historical and natural landmark located south of the city of Rethymno on the island of Crete. Standing at an elevation of approximately 858 meters, it is most famous for hosting one of the most important Minoan peak sanctuaries in Western Crete, which served as a major ritual site from the Protopalatial to the Neopalatial periods. The mountain offers panoramic viewsstretching from the White Mountains to Mount Ida and the Cretan Sea. Today, the summit is marked by the small chapel of Agios Panteleimon, making it a popular destination for hikers and pilgrims who follow the winding trails through its rocky, thyme-scented landscape to explore both its archaeological heritage and its natural beauty.
