Description
Mount Sidenotas (also known as Vrysinas or Vrisinas) is a prominent limestone mountain located just south of Rethymno on the island of Crete, reaching an elevation of approximately 858 meters. It serves as a natural landmark overlooking the city and the Cretan Sea, characterized by its rugged terrain and Mediterranean flora. The mountain is historically significant as the site of a Minoan peak sanctuary, where archaeologists have discovered numerous clay figurines and offerings dating back to the Protopalatial period. Today, it is a popular destination for hikers and pilgrims, featuring the small chapel of Agios Panteleimon at its summit, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the Psiloritis range to the east and the Lefka Ori to the west.
