Description
According to written testimonies, the monastery was founded by a monk of the Monastery of Apezana who once set out for the Monastery of Agarathos. On his way, he spent the night in the church of Agios Georgios which was located on the estates of the Langouvardos family. Following the intervention of the Saint, the monk convinced the feudal lord Langouvardos to build the monastery there. The name Epanosifis was given by Langouvardos himself, who had two shepherds with the same name, Sifis. To distinguish them, he gave them the names Epano-Sifis and Kato-Sifis. Therefore, the nickname, Agios Georgios of Epanosifis, prevailed, as the mitato of Ano Sifis was located here.
