Chrysoskalitissa Monastery

Chrysoskalitissa Monastery is a historic 17th-century Greek Orthodox monastery located on the southwest coast of Crete near Kissamos, built atop rocks 35 m above the Libyan Sea. Its name (“golden step”) comes from a local tradition about one of the 90 steps to the monastery being made of gold, and it remains an important religious and cultural site offering dramatic sea views and a rich local legend.
