Kamilari

Kamilari is a picturesque village situated in the southern part of Crete, within the Heraklion regional unit. It lies on the route between Mires and Timbaki, approximately 65 km from Heraklion city. Built atop three hills—Goulas, Alevrota, and Ovgora—Kamilari offers stunning panoramic views of the Messara Plain, the Libyan Sea, and the Psiloritis mountain range. The village is renowned for its traditional stone-built houses adorned with bougainvillea, narrow alleys, and a tranquil atmosphere. Nearby attractions include the Minoan archaeological sites of Phaistos and Agia Triada, as well as the Kamilari Minoan Tholos tomb. The village hosts fairs during the feast days of 27 July and 6 August, celebrating its rich cultural heritage.
