Description
Kaloi Limenes (Greek: Καλοί Λιμένες, meaning “Good Harbors”) is a small natural port located on the southern coast of Crete, approximately 70 kilometers southwest of Heraklion. Nestled in a well-protected bay, the port serves both as a traditional fishing harbor and an important bunkering point for ships sailing the southern Aegean and Libyan seas.
The area is quiet and scenic, far from mass tourism, and is historically significant. According to Christian tradition, Saint Paul (Apostle Paul) stopped here during his journey to Rome. A small chapel built in his honor stands near the coast. Offshore lies the islet of Agios Pavlos (Saint Paul’s Island), which houses fuel tanks used by passing cargo vessels.
The port is surrounded by clear blue waters, secluded beaches, and simple local tavernas, offering a peaceful retreat for sailors, locals, and visitors looking for solitude and natural beauty.
