Description
It is located near the village of A. Zaros. During the Venetian period it was a part of the Holy Monastery of Valsamonero. It is mentioned in a record from 1644. The complex of two single-nave churches from the Venetian period has survived. One is dedicated to St. Nicholas with frescoes from the 14th century, while the other is dedicated to St. Paraskevi, which was restored around 1970. The current complex of the Holy Monastery is located around the old buildings, consisting of newer buildings from the 20th century. At the end of the 19th century, nuns settled there and carried out some renovation work. During the 1960s, a group of lay people who followed the old calendar had settled there. Under the leadership of Metropolitan Kyrillos of Gortyna and Arcadia, they formed a monastic brotherhood that follows the old calendar and commemorates the name of the canonical Bishop of Gortyna and Arcadia. Today, 5 monks reside in the Holy Monastery.
