Description
Glyka Nera Beach (also known as Sweet Water Beach) is a spectacular beach located on the southern coast of the Chania region, in the Sfakia area of Crete. Surrounded by steep rocky cliffs, the beach offers a dramatic and unspoilt natural setting.
Glyka Nera Beach is famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and unique freshwater springs that flow from beneath the rocks into the sea. These natural springs make the water noticeably cooler and extremely refreshing, especially during the summer months. The beach consists mainly of small pebbles, and the sea becomes deep quite quickly, making it ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
The beach can be reached on foot via a scenic coastal path from Loutro or by boat from nearby coastal villages within the Chania region. Basic facilities such as sunbeds, umbrellas and a small seasonal taverna are usually available, while the area remains largely untouched by mass tourism.
Glyka Nera Beach is a perfect choice for visitors exploring southern Chania, offering wild beauty, clear waters and a peaceful atmosphere away from busy resorts.
