Description
Frangokastello Beach is a peaceful sandy beach located on the south coast of Crete, in the Sfakia region of Chania. The beach is well known for its soft golden sand, shallow clear waters and stunning natural backdrop of rugged mountains.
Frangokastello Beach is ideal for families with children, as the sea is usually calm and gently sloping. It is also suitable for swimming, relaxing and enjoying the quiet atmosphere, especially outside the peak summer season. The beach is partly organised, with sunbeds and umbrellas available, while other areas remain natural and unspoilt.
A unique feature of this beach is its proximity to the historic Frangokastello Fortress, a Venetian castle dating back to the 14th century. This combination of beach and history makes the area especially attractive to visitors who enjoy culture as well as nature.
The surrounding area offers tavernas, cafés and easy parking, making Frangokastello Beach a comfortable stop for a half-day or full-day visit while exploring southern Crete.
