About EOS Lasithiou

The association was founded by pioneer Papafragkakis Christoforos Papafragkakis, Karavalakis Ioannis, and Stefanakis Dimitris in 1989 as the Mountain Climbing and Skiing Association (S.O.X.O.L) of the Lassithi Plateau, based in Agios Georgios Oropedio Lassithi. (Decision number of the Lassithi District Court 11/1990). By decision 324/2000 of the Lassithi District Court, the name was changed to Hellenic Mountaineering Association of Lassithi (EOS Lassithi). It is a member of the Hellenic Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing. It has a Mountain Shelter at an elevation of 1350 m at Anestasi, below the peak of Strovili, above the Linmakaros Plateau, built on land granted by the Avrakondi Community in 1992. The purpose of the association, according to its statutes, is the systematic cultivation of mountaineering (ascents, climbing, etc.) of winter sports, the organization of sports competitions, and the promotion of love and respect for the mountain environment.
