Description
Enfigias Hill, often referred to as Evligias Hill in many local guides, is a prominent, pine-covered elevation situated just south of the city center of Rethymno. It is well-known among visitors and locals for providing one of the most spectacular panoramic viewpoints of the city, the Venetian Harbor, and the Cretan Sea. Historically, the hill serves as a green "lung" for the urban area and is a popular spot for leisure activities, featuring walking trails that lead through its dense pine forest. A key cultural landmark on the road passing through the hill is the historic Nunnery of Agia Irini, which dates back to 981 AD and was significantly restored in the late 20th century. Today, the area is also home to the Forest Park Hotel, which leverages the hill's elevated position to offer quiet, scenic accommodations away from the city's coastal noise.
