Elia

Elia is a charming hilltop village in the Municipality of Hersonissos, just 12 km southeast of Heraklion. At an altitude of approximately 230 m, it offers lush olive groves, vineyards and sweeping views of the sea. The local community of around 1 000 residents continues traditional cultivation of olives, wine and raisins. Visitors can enjoy the tranquil ambience amidst aromatic landscapes, while exploring historic churches such as Agios Panteleimonas (built in 1911) and the older Genesio of the Virgin Mary. The village is ideal for leisurely strolls through its scenic streets and local pathways, providing an authentic taste of rural Cretan life.
