Description

The well-preserved structure spans a single 3.95 m opening, which is unusually large for a false arch. The opening is cut from unmortared limestone blocks in the shape of an isosceles triangle, with a height of 1.84 m. The overall length of the bridge is 9.35 m. Its width varies from 5.1 to 5.2 m, slightly narrowing toward the center above the arch (5.05 m at the midpoint). The height ranges from 4 to 4.2 m. The bridge, still in use, was first described by the English traveler T. A. B. Spratt in his Travels and Researches in Crete, after his visit to the site in 1853. At that time, another ancient bridge with a triangular arch stood a few hundred meters away, but a later report suggests it was destroyed sometime before 1893.
