Description
Ditikos (also known as Diskos or Dytikos) is a delightful coastal hamlet situated about 500 m west of Lentas, within the Gortyna municipality of southern Heraklion. Flanked by the iconic Lion headland, it unveils a long, wild beach of fine pebbles and coarse sand stretching toward Gerokambos. Here, crystal-clear Libyan Sea waters lap the shore lined with tamarisk trees that offer natural shade. The eastern section, opposite the settlement, features a smattering of tavernas and rooms, perfect for those seeking simple comforts. Further west, the beach becomes secluded, favoured by naturists and wild campers in a spirited nod to its 1970s hippie legacy. Ditikos is also a nesting site for Caretta‑Caretta turtles, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers. Visitors can stroll along the shore, watch spectacular sunsets behind the Asterousia mountains, or simply enjoy the unspoilt, laid-back atmosphere and the stars emerging in the night sky.
