Kournas lake

Lake Kournas is a freshwater lake in the prefecture of Chania, 4 km from Georgioupolis, surrounded by mountains, covering 58 hectares with a depth of 20 meters. It hosts rare flora and fauna, is part of the Natura 2000 program, and offers easy road access, taverns, cafés, swimming in summer, and scenic walks in winter, making it ideal for families. The lake is also linked to legends about deep waters, electromagnetic fields, and a fairy living in its waters.
