Description
According to myth, Zeus was born in a remote cave on the slopes of Mount Ida in Crete. Even if you’re not a fan of Greek mythology, you’ll enjoy exploring this cavern filled with stalagmites and stalactites and taking in the stunning views of the surrounding valley from the top. The hike up to the cave is manageable but steep; if you’re with young children, consider a donkey ride to the top. There is an entrance fee to the cave, which is usually covered if you sign up for a day tour of the area. Such tours often include a stop at the cave and the Lassithi Plateau, and occasionally offer a 4x4 off-road option for the more adventurous.
