Description
The Byzantine Museum of Chania, officially known as the Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Collection, is housed in the historic Church of San Salvatore in the old town of Chania. The museum presents a rich collection of religious and artistic artifacts from the Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods.
Visitors can admire icons, mosaics, fresco fragments, sculptures, and ecclesiastical objects dating from the 4th to the 17th century. The exhibits highlight the evolution of religious art in Crete and the influence of both Byzantine and Venetian rule on local culture.
Set within a beautifully restored Venetian-era church, the museum offers a unique atmosphere that combines architecture, history, and spirituality in the heart of Chania’s old town.
