Description
The Avlaki Gorge is a quiet and relatively untouched gorge in the Akrotiri area of Crete. It’s much less visited than nearby routes like Katholiko Gorge, giving it a more remote and peaceful atmosphere. The terrain is rugged, with rocky paths and minimal signage, so it’s better suited for hikers who are comfortable navigating less-defined trails.
The gorge leads down toward the coast, offering wide views and a sense of isolation rather than dense vegetation or dramatic narrow passages. Because it’s not organized or maintained, proper footwear, water, and some route awareness are important. It’s a good choice if you’re looking to explore a quieter, more natural side of Chania’s landscape.
