Description
Neratze Mosque (Τζαμί Νερατζές / Neradje Mosque) is a historic Ottoman-era monument in the heart of Rethymno’s Old Town. Originally built as the Santa Maria church of the Augustinian monastery during Venetian rule, it was converted into a mosque in 1657 by Gazi Hüseyin Pasha. A tall minaret with two balconies was added in 1890.
Today the building no longer functions as a place of worship but hosts cultural uses (such as a conservatory/concert hall) and stands as a testament to the town’s rich multicultural history.
