Description
The Venizelos Tombs are the final resting place of two of Greece’s most influential political figures: Eleftherios Venizelos (leader of the Cretan Revolution and multiple‑term Prime Minister of Greece) and his son Sophoklis Venizelos. Set on Profitis Ilias (Prophet Elijah) Hill east of Chania, the site offers sweeping panoramic views over the city and the sea. The tombs occupy a peaceful park beside the historic Profitis Ilias Church, and the surrounding area includes monuments such as the statue of Spyros Kayaledakis, commemorating his heroic act during the 1897 bombardment.
