Description

The permanent Exhibition of Ancient and Traditional Naval Architecture is housed at Neorio Moro, a historic Venetian shipyard in Chania’s old port. It is an annex of the Maritime Museum of Crete and showcases maritime history from ancient times to traditional Greek shipbuilding. The highlight is a 17 m-long replica of a Minoan ship, built using Bronze Age tools and techniques, as well as smaller traditional boat models, shipwright tools, construction materials, and photographs documenting shipbuilding stages. The exhibition demonstrates the evolution of naval architecture and the island’s deep seafaring traditions.
