Holy Dormition Church of the Virgin Anogia

This is a Greek Orthodox parish church in the village of Anogia in the Rethymno regional unit on the island of Crete. It is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary — one of the most important feasts in the Orthodox Christian calendar. Churches dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary celebrate her “falling asleep” and assumption into heaven  one of the most widely observed feasts in Greek Orthodoxy, always held annually on 15 August. In Crete, many local communities mark this feast with special services and often village festivals or pilgrimages around that date. The parish in Anogia is part of the Orthodox Church of Crete under the Metropolis of Rethymno & Avlopotamos and is an active centre of religious life — hosting regular liturgies, feast-day celebrations, and pastoral activities.
