THE IDEA
Where the Cretan land meets human endeavor
"Idea" was the earliest known name of Crete, given by the island’s king, Zeus, in honor of his wife, Idea, the mother of the ten Curetes. According to Greek mythology, Crete is also the birthplace of Zeus, the ruler of Olympus.
The eight-petal daisy featured in the winery’s logo appears on the Phaistos Disc and symbolizes Sirius—the brightest star in the night sky.
Idea Winery is a family-owned estate established in 2000 by oenologists Vasilis Laderos and Kalliopi Volitaki, with a mission to showcase the island’s native grape varieties and the richness of the Cretan vineyard. The winery is located in the heart of Crete’s wine country, in the Malevizi region, in the village of Venerato, just south of Heraklion, within the PDO Dafnes appellation.
