Description
The Almiros River is a perennial freshwater stream located approximately 2.5 km south of Agios Nikolaos in the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos, within the Lassithi regional unit of Crete, Greece. It originates from karst springs in the surrounding mountains and flows into the Almiros Wetland, a protected area characterized by reed beds, eucalyptus trees, and a variety of bird species. The river's mouth forms the Almiros Beach, a popular destination known for its sandy shore and shallow, calm waters.
