Description

The Fodele River, locally known as Pantomantris, runs through the charming village of Fodele, roughly 25–30 km west of Heraklion, Crete. It flows from the nearby hills through lush citrus groves into the sea after a gentle descent of about 60 m .The river is lined with majestic plane trees (platania), oleanders, reeds, and hosts ducks and other local wildlife—creating a verdant oasis at the heart of the village .

Locals and visitors often enjoy riverside walks or lunch at traditional tavernas beside the water. There are also scenic hiking opportunities upstream, near the old watermill and through a small gorge with waterfalls .
