Description
The Venetian dockyards, also known as the "Neoria," are a striking reminder of Crete’s maritime heritage. Located in the old harbor of Chania, they were built in the 16th century by the Venetians to repair and shelter ships. Originally numbering 17, a few still stand today with their signature arched facades and high vaulted ceilings. These historic structures showcase impressive stone craftsmanship and offer insight into the island's naval significance during Venetian rule. Some of the preserved dockyards now serve as cultural venues and exhibition spaces, blending centuries-old architecture with modern life in the heart of Chania’s harbor.
