Description
Grammeno Beach Wetlands form a small but ecologically important coastal habitat where sandy shores meet low-lying, seasonally wet ground. These wetlands support salt-tolerant plants and reeds, creating shelter for insects, amphibians, and small reptiles. The area is also a stopover for migratory birds, with species using it for feeding and resting during seasonal movements. In the shallow waters and damp soils, you can find small invertebrates and fish that thrive in brackish conditions. Despite their modest size, the wetlands play a key role in maintaining local biodiversity along the southern coast of Chania.
