Description
The Tavronitis Bridge is a historic iron bridge built in 1901 over the Tavronitis River, west of Chania, and it became especially significant during the Battle of Crete when German paratroopers landed nearby and fought to control the area and the strategic Maleme airfield; although damaged during the fighting, the bridge has since been restored and today stands as a quiet monument to the intense battles that took place there.
