Description
Manganites (or Manganitis) is a rugged coastal area and village primarily associated with the southern coast of Ikaria, where it is famous for being the gateway to the exotic Seychelles Beach. While several notable gorges exist near Rethymno in Crete—such as Mili Gorge (known for its abandoned watermills), Prassano Gorge (a biotope for vultures), and Kourtaliotiko Gorge (featuring large waterfalls)—there is no widely documented "Manganites Gorge" within the Rethymno prefecture. The name "Manganitis" in a Cretan context typically refers to the Church of Saint John Maganitis in Archanes (Heraklion), named after a historical stone wine press (magana) once located there.
